Overview

OSCE preparation is crucial to success in the exam. This program is designed as per the AHPRA’s (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) standards and guidelines.

About the Program

The OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) is the second examination that international nurses need to undergo after passing NCLEX under the newly implemented OBA (Outcomes-based Assessment)  procedure by AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).

FAQ'S (Frequently Asked Questions)

AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) does not provide the OSCE passing rate data. The approximate passing rate of our training partners is generally between 80-90%. We understand that many providers market themselves with a 100% pass rate, however, we don’t encourage such gimmicks.

OSCE and NCLEX are competitive exams and success depend a lot on your hard work and how much you adhere to our course structure.

Each candidate is tested on practical and communication skills. You may encounter different OSCE scenarios at each station and you may be required to perform the following practical skills: -

  • Physiological observations
  • Vital signs
  • Calculating drug dosages
  • Subcutaneous/intramuscular injection
  • Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT)
  • Resuscitation in the hospital
  • Sharps disposal
  • Medication Administration
  • Wound care
  • Hand hygiene
  • Therapeutic patient communication/consent
  • Infection control practices
  • Patient identification
  • Intravenous therapy administration/management
  • Documentation as per AHPRA standards

Apart from this, communication skills including verbal/non-verbal/written communication are continuously assessed during the exam by the examiner

The OSCE exam will involve actors performing the role of the patient or there will be a manikin. In both cases, it is extremely important that you interact with them just like the way you would in a real-life scenario.

The OSCE results are generally declared within 8 weeks of the examination date.

Candidates who pass the OSCE exam can finish their final online paperwork submission to AHPRA for registration with the NMBA.This includes an international criminal history check, submission of your good standing certificate from your nursing council along with submission of your English language test scores.

Candidates who fail the RN-OSCE can retake the OSCE. If you choose to retake the OSCE you need to follow the steps as identified in the result communication, pay, and register for another exam attempt. After which, AHPRA will inform the exam dates.

You will need to wait for at least one exam cycle to pass before rescheduling the exam.

No OSCE exam fee is not refundable under any circumstances. If you wish to postpone your exam, our advice is to inform the AHPRA exam team at least 7-10 business before the scheduled exam.
